The 2004 American Community Survey

The American Community Survey (ACS), conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, is a nationwide survey that collects information on the U.S. population similar to the long form used in the 2000 Census. However, the ACS will collect and produce data every year instead of every ten years. The ACS will replace the long form in the 2010 Census.

The ACS has been in the development phase for several years and began full implementation in January 2005. The 2004 ACS data is from the last year of the development phase and data will be much more detailed and complete in the 2005 data release.

Below is selected data from the 2004 ACS for Asian Americans and other groups in Massachusetts with comparisons to 2000 census data. Because the sample sizes of minority groups in the 2004 ACS was limited*, this data should be regarded as estimates with the actual figures possibly deviating from these estimates to varying degrees. To assist in evaluating the accuracy of the estimates, the data is reported with a margin of error (or upper and lower bounds). Please be aware that while the estimates may be reasonably accurate, the true figures may lie anywhere between the upper and lower bounds**. The smaller the sample size for a particular variable, the more unreliable the estimates.
