According to the 2000 U.S. Census, people of color now comprise a majority of the population in the city of Boston, yet they remain on the fringes of the city's political, economic, and social structures. The New Majority initiative is bringing together leaders from the communities of color in Boston to begin to identify a common agenda and develop strategies to implement that agenda. As the first step, a conference sponsored by the Gastón Institute, the Trotter Institute and the Institute for Asian American Studies was held on October 18, 2003 at UMass Boston from 9:30AM-3:30PM.
